Let’s take a look at the best beaches in Siesta Key so that you can get ready to hit the sand as soon as you arrive.

Vibe: Popular and family-friendly

TripAdvisor’s 2024 Traveler’s Choice Awards™ ranked Siesta Beach as the Number 2 beach in the U.S. and Number 9 best beach in the world. The 99% white quartz sand and crystal blue waters solidify its reputation and the awards it has earned.

The sand on this beach feels powdery and smooth. It’s considered some of the world’s finest, according to the Great International Sand Challenge of 1987, which permanently put Siesta Beach on the global map.

The sand is so good that the beach hosts the annual Crystal Classic International Sand Sculpting Festival every fall.

The magic of Siesta Beach’s sand is that it stays cool even in intense heat because the quartz crystals disperse heat easily. This means you can rest easy knowing that your children can play freely without overheating. Plus, the water at Siesta Beach is shallow near the shoreline, creating shallow waters perfect for lounging and playing with your kids.

Siesta Beach features nine different beach access points and a large public parking lot located near Access Point 11. There are multiple lifeguard stands with year-round lifeguard protection and clean, public restrooms available. It also has beach wheelchairs available for use at no cost from its main pavilion concession stand.

In case you forget to pack snacks in advance or want to treat your little one, there are two concession stands on Siesta Beach: the Sun Deck and the Sand Pavilion. Both serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and hot and cold food daily, from morning until sunset.

Since the sand stays cool under the Florida sun, there are several outdoor activities suitable for all ages, including volleyball courts, a shaded playground, and picnic areas.

Siesta Village is an easy walk away from Siesta Beach. You’ll find a wide range of dining and entertainment options in Siesta Key Village, including gourmet donut shops, fresh seafood joints, and award-winning steakhouses. Some of the best restaurants in Siesta Key can be found close to the beach in this part of the island.

Siesta Beach is barely 100 feet from several Siesta Key Dreams rental properties. Navigate our rental options today to secure a cozy location that lies within walking distance of the beach’s main access points.

2. Crescent Beach

Vibe: Perfect for snorkeling or diving

Crescent Beach offers the same lush white sands and azure waters as Siesta Beach, only with a more private feel due to its location just south of the main beach. With only two public access points, this beach is less populated and perfect for couples looking to enjoy the views and sunsets that Siesta Key offers.

At the southern tip of this beach, you’ll find Point of Rocks, which is a stunning snorkeling and diving area that is full of coral rock formations and abundant with marine life. The waters at Point of Rocks are very clear and calm, which makes for a perfect snorkeling environment in comparison to the main public beaches.

Point of Rocks is teeming with marine life, allowing you to get up close to tropical fish, various crustaceans, crabs, red sponges, and a wide range of other sea creatures while exploring this vibrant underwater world.

During the summer months, you may even see dolphins and manatees from Crescent Beach. Visibility in the water ranges up to 20 feet or so, but closer to the rock, it is about 6 feet. Snorkeling in the early morning is the best time to have clear, calm waters and see all the marine life that comes out.

While parking is more limited at Crescent Beach, the Siesta Breeze Trolley does make a stop at the cross of Midnight Pass Road and Seaside Drive. Near Access Point 13, South Village offers restaurants, beach rentals, and marina access.

3. Turtle Beach

Vibe: Sporty and less crowded

At the south end of Siesta Key, long and narrow Turtle Beach has darker sand filled with beautiful shells. Although the sand isn’t as soft as Siesta Beach, you and your family will be well-occupied hunting for some of the most beautiful shells from the Gulf of Mexico, especially near the boat launch area.

You’ll find shells all over this beach, even if you are stationed in one area for the day to enjoy the water with friends. Dedicated shell hunters can be spotted sifting around the beach for the best finds, leaving with their top picks by the end of the day.

As the name suggests, this beach hosts a record number of sea turtles that migrate and nest on the shores. Between May to October, you may see some sea turtles basking in the sun. Plenty of smaller shorebirds and fish hide out at Turtle Beach on the barrier island as well.

There is a free, public parking lot that can accommodate over 200 cars and has sufficient space for boat trailers as well. Fishing is permitted in Blind Pass Lagoon, which is adjacent to the beach and has a boat launch. This area is perfect for paddleboarding and other water activities.

Despite the southern end of Siesta Key being a little quieter than the north, there are a few excellent restaurants here if you’re looking for a bite to eat while at the beach.

A great example is Turtle’s Restaurant, which offers casual waterfront dining on South Siesta Key. Originating in 1986, six Siesta Key locals created Turtle’s Restaurant to provide top-tier service with a fantastic view of Little Sarasota Bay.

Similar to Siesta Beach, Turtle Beach offers picnic areas, a playground, a volleyball court, and even a horseshoe pit. It doesn’t have any lifeguards, so only head into the waters if you’re a confident swimmer. While it might not have the whitest sand, the shelling makes up for it!

4. Sunset Beach

Vibe: Romantic and peaceful

If you’re chasing unforgettable golden-hour views, Sunset Point on Siesta Key is the place to be. This quiet stretch of shoreline is a favorite among locals and in-the-know travelers who come here to experience the island’s most breathtaking sunsets.

The vibe is relaxed and romantic, making it perfect for evening strolls, couples’ picnics, or a moment of quiet reflection as the sky turns brilliant shades of orange, pink, and purple.

With fewer tourists and a more laid-back pace than the main beaches, you’ll find space to unwind in a secluded setting, perhaps near the shallow waters, and breathe in the salty Gulf air without the crowds.

There’s a real sense of seclusion here, as it’s not as well-marked as other beaches, giving it that “secret spot” appeal. Locals often bring beach chairs and a cooler for an evening picnic area that feels personal and unhurried.

The atmosphere at Sunset Beach is very relaxed, but if you’re looking for a livelier way to celebrate the magical sunset, check out the Sunday evening drum circle on Siesta Beach instead.

5. Shell Beach

Vibe: Quiet and relaxing

Tucked into a quiet residential area at the northern tip of Siesta Key, Shell Beach is a serene, lesser-known gem perfect for travelers seeking calm, natural beauty.

Unlike the wide, expansive public beaches nearby, Shell Beach offers a cozy, tucked-away feel, with a charming intimacy that feels worlds away from the busier areas. It’s ideal for solo travelers, couples, or anyone craving a slower, more contemplative beach day.

How do you find this secret beach? Head north along Higel Avenue on the northern tip of the island, then take a left down North Shell Road. You’ll find the public beach access point right at the end. It’s a small entrance with very limited parking, but it’s a quieter, more tucked-away beach compared to the main public beaches.

As its name suggests, Shell Beach is an excellent spot for shelling, especially after a tide rolls in. You’ll often find unique pieces scattered along the shore, perfect for collecting or simply admiring.

The water here is calm and inviting, great for wading or floating peacefully under the sun. Bring a towel, a good book, and a drink, and settle in for a few hours of blissful quiet. If your idea of paradise is a calm breeze, soft waves, and very few footprints in the sand, Shell Beach will feel like it was made for you.
